With a population estimated according to the department of statistics of Andorra of 636 people at the end of 2017, Soldeu is a small population centre of the Principality of Andorra, located at the km. 19 of the CG-2 road and just seven kilometers away from the town of Canillo, 114 km away from the Pas de la Casa and 6.5 km away from Grau Roig.

Historically, the municipality of Soldeu has been considered the cradle of the Andorran skiing. A recognition that is not trivial, since it was in this idyllic high mountain village where the history of skiing in Andorra began in 1924. Everything happened just at the time when a Soldeu inhabitant decided to replace the rackets he used to make his routes by two wooden boards. From that moment on Soldeu's link with the world of snow continued its path, to the point of fully consolidating in 1963, the year when the Baró, Salvans and Torrallardona families created the ski slopes of Soldeu, which were later renamed as Soldeu - El Tarter. Thanks to the efforts of these families, Soldeu currently enjoys a strategic situation, being its sector, with the legendary Avet slope, where the World and European FIS Cups are held, an emblematic place of Grandvalira.
